How do you boost team performance when it actually matters?

I’ve noticed a pattern in my team.

We go through periods where everything flows - people are proactive, communication is smooth, delivery is strong.

And then there are periods where performance just… drops a bit.
Nothing is “broken,” but energy, focus, and ownership are clearly lower.

When deadlines are approaching, suddenly I need top performance from everyone. Not average. Not “good enough.”
I need the team to operate at their best.

And that’s where I’m still figuring things out.

Also interesting: I am afraid that relying on performance reviews or sprint rituals doesn’t work.

What are your tips, strategies or tools to boost team performance when you need it?
